The health services representative serves as the front line of defense for intervening in the spread of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) by providing field services for STD Prevention and Control, serving as an essential link between clinic services and persons who are either infected, and/or at risk for acquiring a sexually transmitted disease. The primary responsibility of this position includes acting as a community liaison for STD outreach/field work. Incumbent handles protected health information on a need to know basis. Responsible to maintain confidentiality, security, privacy, and integrity of protected health information.

Major duties and responsibilities:

Coordinates and conducts timely personal interviews, re-interviews and follow-up of clients infected with a STD or at risk of infection for the purpose of (1) educating patients regarding their infections and appropriate medical care; (2) developing plans to locate and refer their sex and needle sharing partners and others at risk for infection to a medical facility for examination and appropriate treatment. Performs cluster interviews on persons determined to be potential information sources for known cases. Conducts community outreach screenings and assists with program planning and special projects to include joint ventures with HIV/AIDS program. This includes educational presentations related to STD and HIV/AIDS topics to professional and community groups as necessary. Represents the department when needed by active participation in public health outreach activities and local HIV/AIDS planning group.

Enter cases, field records and document all follow-up into the PRISM computer system in a timely and accurate manner. Meets timeliness and accuracy standards set by the STD program office. Provides technical assistance to DOH s Public Health Units and staff on matters of STD and HIV/AIDS program services planning and screening efforts. Communicates with physicians, hospitals, clinics and laboratory personnel to confirm (1) obtain/provide information on treated cases and/or diagnostic determination; (2) stimulate case reporting. Complies with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) and applicable Privacy Laws. Assists supervisor in the completion of monthly team statistical data, maintenance of logs, and files. Performs other duties as assigned.

A Bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. Experience providing education regarding STD, HIV, nutrition, or lifestyle choices (smoking, drug use, etc.) is preferred. Experience in community outreach or event planning and partnering with community organizations to accomplish a goal or create an event is preferred. Experience in interviewing, counseling, conducting inspections or investigations and in phlebotomy is preferred.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
